Questions publishers ask

Which costs less, Zlick or PaywallProject?

It depends on your subscription revenue. Zlick’s Essential plan has no monthly fee and takes 10% of each transaction. Its Premium plan is €199 a month plus the same 10%. PaywallProject’s Community plan is $299 a month with no revenue share, and it includes hosting and a team that runs your site. If you want to keep running your own WordPress site, our self-hosted plugin is $99 a month plus 5%. Stripe’s processing fees apply on both.

Does Zlick work with WordPress?

Yes. Zlick works only with WordPress. Its plugin shows readers a few preview paragraphs and then the paywall, and Zlick says setup takes about 10 minutes. You still host and maintain the WordPress site yourself. With PaywallProject, we build, host, and run the WordPress site for you, with the paywall built in, generally in 30 days or less.

Where does my subscriber data live?

With Zlick, your readers and their subscriptions are stored in the Zlick portal, and card payments run through a Stripe account you connect. With PaywallProject, payments go straight to your own Stripe account, your subscribers live in your WordPress site, and you can export them at any time.

Can I move from Zlick to PaywallProject?

Yes. We handle the move for you. We bring your subscribers over and create their subscriptions in Stripe going forward, so renewals keep running. Readers who pay Zlick through their phone bill have no card on file, so they’ll add a card when we move them. Zlick runs on WordPress, so your stories stay in WordPress too.

Prices are taken from Zlick’s public pricing page, where they are listed in euros, and may change. Payment processing fees (such as Stripe’s) apply on both platforms. “Not listed” means the feature isn’t shown on that company’s pricing page.Last updated October 2026Compare all platforms
